Supporting former registrants during COVID-19

02 Medi 2020

We recognise the challenges that former registrants might face in meeting our returning to practice requirements during these difficult times. We are, therefore, providing added flexibility, whilst continuing to assure those we register are fit to practise safely and effectively.

Applicants will still need to evidence their ability to meet our standards, however we will provide flexibility on alternative forms of ‘formal study’ and what type of evidence we accept as proof of ‘supervised practice’.

We are also temporarily extending the timescales from the usual 12 months to 24 months to enable more time for returnees to complete their period of updating.

Jacqueline Ladds, Executive Director of Policy & External Relations says,

“Being able to provide and facilitate support for those who wish to return to practice during these unprecedented times, is really important. We hope this approach will alleviate some of the challenges faced by applicants, and it is our intention to keep this under review as we step into the next phase of regulating throughout the pandemic.”
