Lay Council member


John worked in primary care for over 20 years as one of the first non-medical partners in a GP Partnership.   Alongside this he held Chief Executive and Director positions in related companies delivering community pharmacy, healthcare education and collaborations.  He has a particular interest in health inequalities and much of his work took place in regions where this is a significant issue.  Prior to this John served for a full career in the armed forces, predominantly the RAF Regiment where he held senior operational appointments, including serving with the United Nations.  John lives in the Highlands of Scotland where he enjoys pursuing his passion for mountaineering and climbing.

May 2002-October 2022: Managing Partner in Haxby Group, a large GP practice. The role carried Directorships of Haxby Group Training Ltd, Nimbuscare Ltd (a GP collaborative) and Haxby Pharmacy Ltd and holding a partnership in trust with Central Healthcare in Scarborough, plus other shorter term directorships with related companies all now terminated. All positions were self-employed.

Jun – Oct 2022: Seasonal Access Ranger for the Highland Council. Temporary, part-time employed role

Jan - May 2023: Primary Project Care Manager NHS Highland. Temporary, part-time employed role

Jul 2023 – present: Team member of Kintail Mountain Rescue Team SCIO

Sept 2022 – present: Member of the Board of Trustees, Glen Brittle Memorial Hut, a charity that owns and operates a mountain hut on Skye that is also a War Memorial.

2021-2022 - Board Member of the leadership team for a VCSE body called SeeChange based in Scarborough working with Age UK and MIND on a bid for lottery and Kings Fund support. Now terminated.

I was a member of the Institute of Directors – membership now terminated.

Co-owner, Director and joint shareholder (with wife) of Anam Cara Consulting and Lifestyle Ltd (Companies House 08580320) a body used to support and provide yoga teaching and training business run from home. Also works as a freelance Mountain Guide through the same company.

Nothing significant but was a paid member of the Liberal Party and assisted with leaflet distribution in York during the last general election.
