Social Work England CEO announced

25 May 2018

Colum Conway has been appointed as the Chief Executive of future social work regulator in England, Social Work England. Mr Conway is currently Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC), which is the regulatory body for the social work profession and social care workforce in Northern Ireland.

The Department for Education has also today published the government response to the public consultation on the policy to establish the regulatory framework for Social Work England. Alongside this government consultation response, they have laid regulations that, subject to Parliamentary approval, will enable Social Work England to operate.

Social Work England recently launched an interim website, which provides information ahead of the anticipated transfer of social workers in England from the HCPC to Social Work England in 2019. Until this time, the regulation of this profession will remain with HCPC including the forthcoming renewal period.

If social workers in England wish to continue to practise then they will have to renew their registration with the HCPC between 1 September until 30 November 2018. Renewal letters will be sent out as usual at the beginning of September.
