The HCPC launches two new fitness to practise policies

14 Jan 2019

The HCPC launches its new Threshold Policy for Fitness to Practise Investigations and Approach to the Investigation of Health Matters policy on Monday 14 January 2019

The Threshold Policy sets out a new approach to investigating fitness to practise concerns, and to decision making in the early stages of our investigation process. The policy will also ensure that more serious and high-risk cases are prioritised and advanced through the new process. The Threshold Policy for Fitness to Practise Investigations replaces our previous Standard of Acceptance policy.

The HCPC’s Approach to the Investigation of Health Matters explains how we will investigate concerns that a registrant’s fitness to practise may be impaired because of their physical or mental health. It also sets out the factors we will take into account when assessing health matters and the types of information we might need.

Both the Threshold Policy and Approach to Health Matters are effective immediately, and will apply to existing fitness to practise cases as well as new concerns received from the 14 January 2019. The policies will not apply retrospectively to any cases that have already been considered against our previous Standard of Acceptance policy.

Further information about the new fitness to practise process can be found in the 'Concerns' (click here to view) section of our website.
