A Year in Highlights Report 2021

20 Dec 2021

The HCPC’s Year in Highlights report, published today, reflects on the organisation’s main achievements and progress during the year from 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021.

Importantly, it also conveys the experience of our registrants, during an unprecedented and extremely challenging time for the healthcare sector.

For the HCPC, 2020-2021 was a year of progress, engagement, innovation and change, as the whole organisation learnt to adapt its ways of working to become more resourceful and flexible during the pandemic. It was also a year in which the HCPC set a fresh direction, with our new and ambitious five-year Corporate Strategy.

Christine Elliott, Chair of the HCPC, comments:

“COVID-19 has of course dominated much of the last year, as the health and care sector faced one of its toughest ever challenges. Our registrants met that imperative, and we thank them, support them and are proud of them. More than 27,000 professionals and students signed up to our Temporary Registers, and many registrants joined the crucial vaccine rollout efforts. As an organisation we adapted quickly, moving many of our processes online so that we could continue to function as an effective regulator.

"There was significant progress made this year in many areas of our work, including our FtP Improvement Programme, a new Quality Assurance model in Education, a Registrant Health and Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plan, and a Professionalism and Prevention Framework. We placed a particular focus on Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and I am pleased to say that we developed and published our first ever EDI Strategy and are putting it into practice.

"Although there are undoubtedly still difficult days to come, I look forward to the HCPC’s continued progress as we strive towards our aim to be a high performing regulator which delivers forward-looking regulation underpinned by strong data, collaboration and compassion.”
