Social media for healthcare professionals: 2024 student competition

Learning materials: risks and opportunities of social media

For the HCPC student competition 2024, we invited students on HCPC approved programmes to design a student learning session that explores the risks and opportunities of using social media in your practice as a health and care professional.

Social media can be an excellent tool for all kinds of healthcare professionals. It provides opportunities for colleagues to keep in touch and share information promptly, as well as showing examples of best practice. However, it also comes with risks and the potential to breach professional standards.

The overall winner for 2024 was Emma Idowu, studying a Masters in Occupational Therapy at Glasgow Caledonian University. The runners up were Robert Stevens and Tesni Davies, who are studying a BSc in Paramedic science at Swansea University, and Natalie Wood, Sophie Ellis, Louise Baxandall and Mathew Baines, who are on the Scientist training programme at the National School of Healthcare Science, Sheffield.

Their entries can be viewed below.
