Consultation on preceptorship

This consultation ran from 26 October to 21 December 2022.

Dyddiad:

Dydd Mercher 26 Hydref, 2022 , Dydd Mercher 21 Rhagfyr, 2022

Lleoliad:

Online survey

The consultation document sets out our proposal to introduce guiding principles for preceptorship. It outlines:

  • why the HCPC is involved in this piece of work;
  • how registrants, employers and the wider health and care sector can work together to gain the benefits of effective preceptorship programmes;
  • how the principles have been developed leading up to this consultation;
  • how you can submit a response.

As part of this work, we are collaborating with Health Education England (HEE) and have engaged stakeholders across the 4 UK nations and 15 professions to build on existing examples of good practice in preceptorship. Our aim is to produce a set of evidence-led principles that seek to standardise the quality of preceptorship programmes available.

This is a consultation; we want to hear the views of our registrants and others with an interest in our work.  We will carefully consider the views you express and take them into account in finalising our proposals.

The questions we are asking are set out throughout the consultation document.

We would encourage you to read the background information set out in this document before you answer these questions.

Preceptorship FAQs

  • Preceptorship is described as a period of structured support and development during periods of career transition, during which a preceptee is supported by a preceptor to develop their confidence as an autonomous and accountable professional.

  • These principles aim to support consistently high-quality preceptorship provision, for use by registrants, employers and all those who support registrants at key career transition points. We hope that this will help support the future workforce to feel valued, to increase confidence of those in new roles and to support HCPC registrants in their chosen professions long term.

  • Final date of publication is to be confirmed but we anticipate early 2023.
