Updating your knowledge and skills

If you have not practised for two years or more, you must complete either 30 or 60 days of updating (depending on how long you have been out of practice)

Education providers

We work closely with education providers to ensure that training programmes meet and continue to meet our standards

The public

As a regulator set up to protect the public, involving the public as key stakeholders is essential to our work and we are committed to this involvement in a number of our core organisational activities

Registrants and representative organisations

Communicating with our registrants is essential to the work that we do. It is important that registrants are kept up to date with developments that affect their professional registration

Key characteristics of effective supervision

We recently commissioned Newcastle University to undertake research into what makes clinical and peer supervision effective

Cross-profession supervision and multiple supervisors

Case study: Ellie is a registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), who recently started a new job at an NHS Trust. As part of her contract of employment, Ellie is expected to administer drugs intravenously.

Student supervision

Case study: Lilly is a Band 5 registered dietician who works in a community healthcare centre. Lilly has recently been asked by her employer to supervise Isaac, a second-year student dietician, during his practice-based learning.
