How we are informing our work by considering graduate experience
We want to continually improve our support for education providers in meeting our regulatory requirements, and delivering the best programmes they can. A key part of our work is making sure we understand the experience of those going through education programmes.
Performance review requirements 2022-23 - what to expect
We emailed education providers due their performance review in 2022-23 and 2023-24 in early August. Providers who will undergo the process this year (2022-23) will have been given specific requirements and a key contact to work with at the HCPC.
UK-wide Professional Liaison Service
The Professional Liaison Service now operates with a Consultant in each of the four UK nations, who can design and deliver solutions that are specific to registrant and employer needs.
Professional liaison groups
A professional liaison group (or ‘PLG’) provides advice to the Council or committees on strategic issues. Either the Council, or a committee can decide to set up a PLG, to look at a specific issue and report back.
Failure to conduct a full / accurate assessment
Case study: An employer raised concerns about a psychologist who did not report a service user’s suicidal thoughts to their supervisor or any other professionals. This was despite it happening repeatedly and after recording a case note.
Revisions to our standards of education and training
Guidance about our revised standard, which came into effect in September 2017. We are currently undertaking a rolling review of how programmes meet the revised standards.
Visitors will need to provide pre-visit feedback
Under our revised approval process, visitors will be required to provide feedback in a structured way, noting broad areas of concern, within two weeks of receiving the documentary submission
Group reflection within a team
Case study: Munira is a physiotherapist working in private practice. She has treated her service user Russel for the last three months after he was involved in a fall at home.
Disclosing information without consent
There are a small number of circumstances where you might need to pass on information without consent, or when you have asked for consent but the service user has refused it
Education Quality Assurance Model
The new model aims to deliver proportionate and flexible regulatory action through a more intelligent use of data and a risked based approach to education programme assurance
Remote supervision
Case study: Raff is a hearing aid dispenser working in independent practice. He has just started running his own business as a sole practitioner in a remote location in the Scottish Highlands.

What you need to do for annual monitoring 2019–20
This year we're asking you to provide extra evidence to show how your programme has monitored practice-based learning and the involvement of service users and carers
